he BDS areT Nazis in suits": the metal soloist who fulfilled  his dream of performing in Israel

After years of wanting to perform in Israel, David Draiman, the Jewish singer of the Disturbed band, realized the dream this week. In a special interview on the day of the performance, in which he wore an undershirt with an IDF insignia on it, he explained the deep connection to the Jewish people and the State of Israel: "I will not let these people treat me with bullying."

The American Disturbed band is one of the largest metal bands in the world, with hundreds of millions of fans. They broke into consciousness in 2000 with "Down With The Sickness", which later appeared as a soundtrack for movies and sporting events, and in 2015 their cabaret for Simon and Garfunkel's song Sound of Silence captured the radio stations in Israel and abroad.
The band's soloist David Dreamman has been dreaming of performing in Israel for years, and this week - after 20 years of musical activity - it finally happened. Jewish-American Draiman defines himself as a lover of Israel. Most of his family lives in Israel, and he even speaks Hebrew. When he was a young man, he studied at a yeshiva in Jerusalem and remained connected to Judaism and his heritage.
"My family is part of the State of Israel before the State of Israel was there," he tells me in the morning. "My grandparents were in the Haganah, when at the time they fought against a real occupation - the British occupation - my grandfather and father served in the paratroopers unit.
"My grandfather survived Bergen-Belsen when he had to work in the crematorium, and my grandmother managed to escape the gas chambers of Auschwitz three times, and in Israel I have more than 2,000 relatives, in addition to my mother, father, grandmother and brother who live here."
Did Judaism affect your writing?
"Yes, my Judaism has been open and sincere since we started creating the song" Never Again. "In Stupify I use the word" fear "and repeat it a few times in the song, I am secular, respect my heritage and remember where I came from. The customs to my son. "

"BDS - Nazis in suits"

Dreiman is also very attached to everything that happens in Israel on the political level, and is updated in all the current events. He takes a strong stand against the boycott organizations: "The BDS are Nazis in suits, people who are looking for any excuse to demonize not only the State of Israel but also the people of Israel.
"These are people who have historically hated Jews and will continue to hate Jews, whose slogan is 'Israel is our bad luck,' sounds like 'the Jews are our bad luck,' as they used it in Nazi Germany in the past ... It's exactly the same again with other faces" .

The Advisory Council of the "Community Creates for Peace" organization, in which Dreiman is a member, makes sure to contact international artists who confirm their arrival in Israel. As part of the job, Draiman calls to strengthen the artist and prepare him for dealing with boycott organizations. "Our mission is to build bridges, not to stand behind boycotts," he says. "The benefits of music and creativity are the harmony that can be created by the fact that music makes people connect, you want to create a solution, encourage dialogue, do not compete.
"Roger Waters is a bully, when you are armed with false information based on lies, when you try to confront someone who is really knowledgeable about history and the situation, you get into an argument that you are about to lose. "I believe that it is our responsibility to teach our children differently, and that it hurts me for children who are educated to hate, until this circle does not end, especially on the other side, there is no hope for peace."

"Hatikvah" in a cappella with Israeli flags in the background

"You do not know how much I waited and dreamed about this night," Dreiman opened the "Disturbed" performance, and tried to speak Hebrew throughout the performance. It was hard to say who was more excited - the audience, which for the first time appeared with his band in front of tens of thousands of fans and his family in the Holy Land. He devoted the song Indestructible to the soldiers, when he went up on stage in an undershirt with an IDF insignia.
The mutual excitement reached its peak when Dreiman sang "Hatikvah" in A-Capella, with Israeli flags in the background. "How I waited to be here, in our Holy Land, in the Land of Israel, in the State of Israel," he told the fans.
The production announced that the show was sold out, despite the fact that dozens of fans were unable to attend due to the protests of Ethiopian immigrants. Whatever the case, there is no doubt that this is one of the most hugely successful performances in Israel.
