NASA Releases Striking Video Featuring Disturbed's 'The Sound Of Silence'
Disturbed's Grammy-nominated version of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" has been featured in a video released by NASA that was filmed aboard the International Space Station during Expedition 53. Captured by space station Commander Randy Bresnik and flight engineers Sergey Ryazanskiy and Paolo Nespoli, the video features stunning footage of Earth and outer space from the space station's orbit 250 miles above Earth.
Disturbed's double-platinum rendition of "The Sound Of Silence" spent seven straight weeks at #1 on Rock Radio, earning a Grammy nomination for the Best Rock performance category for "The Sound of Silence (Live on CONAN)" and amassing more than 68 million views to date. The song is taken from Disturbed's Gold-certified albumImmortalized, which is the band's fifth consecutive album to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, a rare feat achieved by only one other hard rock band in the history of the chart: Metallica.
Formed in Chicago in 1996, the multi-platinum Disturbed - David Draiman [vocals], Dan Donegan [guitar], Mike Wengren [drums], and John Moyer [bass] - have sold more than 16 million albums globally and scored thirteen No. 1 singles at Rock Radio. Their quadruple-platinum 2000 debut The Sickness formally announced their arrival as hard rock leaders, with that status solidified by their subsequent Grammy Award nominations, as well as gold-, platinum- and double platinum-certified records.

Sorry for the blip in posting – a fairly awful cold kicked my ass this weekend, and I spent all Monday in bed as well.  At least I’m walking around today though.  On the bright side, I did run across a few new things of interest, like this music video – a collection of awesome shots of earth set to an awesome rendition of Sound of Silence from Disturbed.  Just sit back, relax, and enjoy.

There's no doubt that our planet is beautiful, especially when you see it from space (if you need convincing, just click here to see the photo known as "The Blue Marble" taken by Apollo 17 astronauts on their way to the moon).
Since we first started seeing Earth from space in the 1960s, there have been countless wonderful images of the world taken by astronauts and satellites.
We can add one stunningly breathtaking video recently released by NASA to the mix.
From August through October this year, cosmonaut Sergey Ryazanskiy, of Russia, and astronauts Paolo Nespoli, of Italy, and Commander Randy Bresnik, of the United States, aboard the International Space Station compiled spectacular video of Earth from their low-earth orbit. The video includes sensational snippets of cities, deserts, oceans, islands, volcanoes, aurora and much more.
The images themselves are fantastic, but the space travelers' soundtrack choice -- heavy metal band Disturbed's haunting version of Paul Simon's "The Sound of Silence" -- results in a stirring presentation.
"Sharing the incomparable silent beauty of our planet with all our fellow travelers on this, our Spaceship Earth," wrote the astronauts.

Disturbed’s GRAMMY-nominated version of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1964 classic, “Sound of Silence,” introduced new fans to the band’s music without chasing away too many of the diehard metalheads. And now, the track has gone even further, serving as the soundtrack to a new NASA video.

The clip for “The Sound (& Visions) Of Silence” was filmed aboard the International Space Station during Expedition 53 by Commander Randy Bresnik and flight engineers Sergey Ryazanskiy and Paolo Nespoli. It features stunning footage of Earth and outer space from the space station’s orbit 250 miles above the planet.
Disturbed’s - David Draiman's version of “Sound of Silence” is from the band’s 2015 album, Immortalized, and was up for Best Rock Performance at this year’s Grammy ceremony, but lost the award to David Bowie’s “Blackstar.”
